A Monopole-Based Wideband Absorber for Ultralarge Angles

This article develops a broadband absorber by fully using the radiation features of monopole antennas for ultrawide-angle absorption application. A unit cell (UC) based on is proposed, and its working polarization analyzed with antenna reciprocity method image theory. wide-angle impedance matching layer also introduced to further enhance at large angles. The optimized monopole-based UC reveals 90% absorptivity from 5.5–14.76 GHz incident angle 80°. To best our knowledge, this first time report an that can work perfectly under such ultrawide angles in manner. An 11 × 36 array configured simulated verify effectiveness UC. monostatic bistatic scattering are both reduced significantly as well other diffuse directions results. prototype 110 mm 360 fabricated measured. Time gating methods adopted diminish direct coupling effect. measurements good agreement full-wave simulation
